Each January 1st, KPC staff and volunteers join dozens of other birders to record bird life found on the Katy Prairie. The Cypress Creek Count is part a national citizen-science project run by the National Audubon Society. The goal of this program is to track bird numbers over the course of many years.
2009 was a banner year for the Christmas Bird Count on the Katy Prairie with over 160 species recorded on one day (including more than 30 Bald Eagles)
