GREAT GROW OUT 2010 - From your Patio to our Preserve!

Would you like to help restore a prairie at Warren Lake from the comfort of your own
home?
In early 2010 KPC weʼll break ground on the two-story Matt Cook Wildlife Viewing
Platform at Warren Lake. We want our visitors to be immersed in an authentic prairie
experience and plan to restore a 20-foot tallgrass prairie buffer on either side of the trail
that leads to the platform. It will be quite a sight where lemon-hued coneflowers, brilliant
blue-green grasses rustle in the prairie wind while showy orange butterflies and
scampering sparrows complete a vibrant scene. You can play an keystone role in this
prairie restoration effort by volunteering to grow native wildflowers and grasses that will
be used at our newest attraction.

Don't have a green thumb? No problem. Weʼve written a new native plant growing handbook just for you (see below). If youʼd like to grow wildflowers and/or grasses for KPC weʼll be happy to provide you with the seed if you can donate soil, space, pots, water, and time. This project is also a good way to get scouts and other youth groups involved in hands-on conservation in their community. Just send your request for seeds to jgonzalez@katyprairie.org!

Just send us an e-mail requesting the seeds that you like to grow from the list below and weʼll ship them to you or you can drop by the KPC Home Office to pick up the seeds yourself. Each seed packet is sufficient to grow out one flat of 18, 4”X4” pots.
